Dime Cómo: Reggaetón in times of Covid.
Whether by accident or intention, most collaborations in music are the product of admiration. "Juntes" like we like to call them, tend to happen when artists connect through different strokes of the same idea. Usually, artists are fans of each other before becoming collaborators. Õndas and KORDELYA are no strangers to that reality.
Los Tiempos
Any great songwriter, producer, or rapper can relate to it. Sometimes the muse appears and sometimes it just doesn't. That's the beauty of collaborations. And they start when one side or the other decides to reach out and then chemistry happens in the studio.
Or at least that's how it used to be...
Times have changed. We are operating in a digital world. It's 2021 and we are living through a pandemic that has separated teams that were used to jamming in the same physical space. But not anymore.
In contrast to sharing ideas in the studio, artists have been forced to build bridges between their talent and their audience. That's how õndas x KORDELYA's collab became a flagship of this reality.
One DM, Two different countries, Three time zones, infinite zoom calls, and boom you get a banger: Dime Cómo.
El Junte
Õndas: two friends who emigrated from Venezuela, started producing music over Skype and Zoom 2 years ago. It's evident now, that they were ahead of their time.
The duo: Oliver and Enrique, created and released their first single "Necesitaba de Ti" in 2020. If you've heard it, you've danced to it.
In November, both KORDELYA and õndas landed on the same Spotify playlist one tune after the other. Kordelya ranked with her top hit: “s a l u d o s”, and õndas with their debut hit “Necesitaba de tí”.
KORDELYA was actually listening to the playlist. Right after KORDELYA's song finished it moved to 'Necesitaba de ti'. That’s where the twist comes. She loved it and reached out to õndas. That's when they jammed on the possibility of a collaboration without landing anywhere concrete. A few weeks later they reconnected and set a time to link up over Zoom. Õndas came in with a couple ideas for a song and they had the basics of 'Dime Como' put together.
The Mexican artists digged it and they started their collab process. It was not easy. Enrique was on European time, Oliver on Eastern, and KORDELYA on Pacific time. So for getting a productive session together lack of sleep and genius was required. And oh boy did this trio delivered.
"It's a testament to our different schedules and time zones, producing this one was a challenge. Dime Como is a song that talks about a long distance relationship. So for the three of us being apart and trying to create together, made the meaning of the song even more relevant”.
õndas
Enrique was 9 hours ahead of KORDELYA which made the slots for producing and recording a bit tricky. Typically past 1am for him. But after a few weeks of work and KORDELYA's teams putting final touches on the song, the final version of Dime Cómo was born.
La Visión
Õndas is this modern duo. They're unique in many ways. The perfect mix of vision and creativity would be an understatement. Õndas has found a way through their Nõtas and Studiõ to involve their audience in the music production process. Something that is radically different to most artists out there.
Their engagement with their crowd signals true love for their art and more importantly, their fans. It only takes a quick trip to their instagram account to see that they are building a platform that goes well beyond traditional approaches. Their interaction in that medium is a breath of fresh air.
While the guys keep it fresh with a tropical style that shines through in "Fuego" and "Cocco", KORDELYA takes a different angle. Her uniqueness results from indy vibras and meaningful lyrics that, to be blunt, make you feel like you are flying in space. Her songs, like 's a l u d o s', are a trip to a distant but comforting place. It's pure magic from this Mexican star.
There is a solid road ahead for these talents. Dime Cómo just debuted and already ranking in some of the top playlists on every streaming platform.
"Esperamos una buena acogida del single y que lo disfruten".
